Self Employment and Addiction

Due to other factors, addicts are marked for relapse.   Most people with addictions  go to AA or NA, get a sponsor and then fail within a year.   Why?   What are the missing links to remaining clean and sober?    The statistics are 5 to 7% remain abstinent for more than 1 year.    Through further treatment one can increase his/her chances of remaing clean.  Also, while in treatment recovering addicts can go within themselves and finally find serenity on their journey.   One day at a time they can make it and begin to follow their true dreams.

Could self employment help on their journey?   What do you think?

  1. Survival is the key! How does an addict survive if he finishes treatment but has no job?

  2. During this slow economy it is even worse for people with disabilities to find work.

How do we survive? We have been through this before!!! Think about it!!!

    • There are many assistance programs in the state to help entrepreneurs with disabilities. The NH SBDC is developing a virtual meeting space in Second Life. In this 3D virtual New Hampshire world, entrepreneurs may meet privately with NH SBDC business advisors and veteran mentors. Gary Carpenter is helping SBDC make this a tool for the disabled and recovering entrepreneur community.

      • Second life is outstanding for veterans that have disabilities such as spinal cord injuries. If a veteran feels less than adaquate this avatar 3d imagery can change there lives. Further through coaching and working with the SBDC a vet can begin to make strides towards making money and having fun while doing it!!

Even though I work in a substance abuse facility I had a glass of wine. Why! Because today I have so much gratitude! I have a choice whether I am going to have that next drink! My life is fulfilled!

  5. It is getting scary!! I am predicng unemployment to get worse in the coming months. What does this mean for addicts? An. Informal survey was done last week at the Phoenix with 50$ having Jobs when they leave the 28 day treatment facility. A little high usually il runs around 30%. What is the solution?
